In a letter sent to the Democratic Party by Tirana Police Director Lawrence Panganika, the development of the rally within the security perimeter prevents normal summit development and poses a real threat to national security and public security.
Therefore, Panganika says he has placed “to stop the development of the gathering required on the 06.12.2022 by 1400 p.m. at the location specified at”.
Among other things, Panganika says Tirana Police remain committed to ensuring each citizen's right to participate in peaceful gatherings and welcomes any DP “announcements for the development of the rally at an alternative location, outside of security perimeter”.
Following that, DP Secretary General Flamur Noka has reacted.
“Proteta is the democratic right earned since December of 1990. No one can stop the right to protest. No one in Albania is allowed to protest. According to the law we announce, that's the legal obligation”, he has indicated to the Clan News.
Meanwhile in the letter to The DP, the Director of the Tirana Police, also explains the security perimeter, which, according to him, is located in consultation with the security structures of the participating delegations in this summit.
The EU-Western Balkans summit will take place on 6 December in Tirana. All leaders of the European Union countries are expected to arrive in Albania's capital.
Meanwhile, DP leader Sali Berisha has indicated that a civil protest will take place in the December 6th protest that “will tell EU leaders how many proeuropalyans are the Albanian opposition”. /tvclean
