“Don't worry, we will release Iran”, Biden said Thursday in California, during a rally of democratic campaign for the upcoming mid-term elections in the US.
He added: “They will soon be released”. Biden said that while his supporters in the crowd wore mobile phones that displayed the message “Free Iran” in large letters.
The Biden administration is facing increasing criticism from Iranian-American activists, who are urging the White House to abandon efforts to renew Iran's nuclear agreement due to protests in this country that authorities are pressing with violence, the US agency estimates.
Protests in Iran began in September, following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Ammin in custody.
The US administration last month announced sanctions against Iranian officials for brutal treatment of protesters, and also recently imposed new sanctions on Tehran for supply of fears and technical assistance to Russia in its fight against Ukraine.
