Former head of the Kosovo Economic Ode (OEK) Safet Gerjaliu has told Online Economy that concern remains unemployment, stressing that 400,000 unemployed people were only during 2020 and 2021. According to him, the overwhelming part has even left Kosovo.
“... in terms of employment and we had close to 400,000 unemployed people in 2020-2021. The majority have left Kosovo. On the other side in 2021, two first elections where we had a large engaged group that were registered as employees, but were only temporarily due to elections”, Gerjaliu said.
It has clarified that in 2021 Kosovo imported 540 million liters of oil, while in 2022, 500 million liters of oil meaning that -6% has a quantum decline.
“In 2021 Kosovo has imported 540m litres of oil, and the total paid for that import is 220m euros. In 2022 Kosovo has imported 500m litres of oil and paid 477m euros meaning -6% has a quantitative decline, but it has a double of the” price.
So I believe that field expert and I want to believe that with the government cabinet, there are experts like this we'll see where the income increase difference is whether it's about performance or whether it's about price increases in international markets. What's more disturbing is that it's only expected for the financial aspect and in the quantitative way we have contractions, and this should be a remark that could cost Kosovo in the future”.
