The rocket travelled 4,500 kilometers before it fell into the Pacific Ocean and if it was to take another trajectory it would hit the American island of Guam, the BBC writes.
This is the first launch of the North Korean missile over Japan since 2017, Japan, on the other hand, issued a cautionary alarm.
In response to North Korea, the United States, Japan and South Korea conducted their military exercises.
The South Korean and US planes shot at a makeshift target on an uninhabited island in the Yellow Sea, while the US and Japan jointly conducted exercises on the Sea of Japan.
The UN forbids North Korea to test ballistic and nuclear weapons. Flight of missiles directly or above other countries without any warning or consultation is also in conflict with international norms.
