Borrell: Europe a garden of flowers, a jungle

EU top diplomat Josep Borrell has been urged to apologise after several comments and calls for the new generation during a speech in Belgium. During his speech, he described the world outside of Europe as a violent “jungle”.
“Europe is a garden”, Mr. Borrell said in a speech in Belgium, but the <x2->most of the rest of the world is a jungle and the jungle can invade the garden”
Borrell's analogy was intended to convince young diplomats that Europe should seek alliances to avoid animosity with the outside world.
But critics said that his speech was filled with racism, colonialism, and imperialism and reflected old views of European superiority.
This analogy is terribly offensive. It has strong colonial and racist overtones,” said Philippe Marleyre, a French and European policy expert at University College of London.
Borrell, the EU's high representative for foreign affairs, has often spoken of preventing the <x0-midage law” from international empowering by resisting Ukraine's Russian occupation.
Dionys Cenus, a political risk analyst and researcher for the Eastern European Studies Centre, said Borrell should apologise on behalf of the EU for his recent comments.
Borrell said in his speech that: “Europe is a garden. We're lucky. We built a garden. Everything works. It is the best combination of political freedom, economic prosperity and social cohesion that humanity has been able to build all three things together.
The other part of the world is not exactly a garden. Most of the rest of the world is a jungle, and the jungle can take over the garden. The gardeners must take care of it, but they will not protect the garden by building walls. A beautiful little garden surrounded by high walls to prevent jungle entry will not be a solution. Because the jungle has a strong capacity for growth and the wall will never be high enough to protect the garden,” said Borrell, broadcast yavanews.al.
Subtitles must go to the jungle. Europeans must be much more engaged to the rest of the world. Otherwise, the rest of the world will conquer us by various means and ways. ”- he continued.
Russian officials, on the other hand, viewed this as an opportunity to attack the perceived western arrogance and imperialism, a favorite subject of the Kremlin.
“Kotti” was built from Europe because of its barbarous attitude against the robbery of “Jungla””, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Ahmed Shahed, a former UN special reporter, suggested that diplomats read Joseph Conrad's novel Darker's Heart, a critic of Western imperialism in Africa.
