The protest will be held from 12: 00 p.m. to “Zahir Pajaziti” in Pristina.
This protest has two demands: not to approve the tariff block proposed by ZRE and nationalise KEDS.
Full announcement:
Dear citizens of Kosovo,
You are invited to participate in the anti-expensive electricity protest in Kosovo on January 26th, 2022, from 12:00 in Pristina.
On January 28, 2022 The Kosovo government is expected to approve ZRE's proposal for the introduction of the tariff block and the 9% increase for all consumers/those who spend up to 600 kWh, while about 200% of the price increase for consumers/those who exceed 600 kWh.
Setting a bill will affect each of us's lives and budget. During the winter season, the energy consumption of an average family in Kosovo exceeds 600 kWh in any form. That means that if we've paid a 58-euro bill with the new fee we'll pay about 108 euros.
Besides being irrational, this proposal will further enrich businesses on our backs. According to the proposal, the price of energy for businesses does not rise at all. This suggests that an average family in Kosovo with a goal of living or even survival also pays for businesses with profit circulation.
KEDS does not have 17m euros in profits per year, but has made ZRE and the Government of Kosovo more than this year to multiply profits. All of this from the budget, also crushed, the citizens of Kosovo.
These blackmailes, we citizens of this country will never allow them. Under these conditions, the protest remains the only way to prevent the burden the Government of Kosovo from charging us through ZRE and KEDS. So we invite you on Wednesday, starting at 12: 00 p.m., to get together and oppose and prevent this rotating injustice against us. The protest starts at the “Zahir Pajaziti” and ends up at the Government building and has two main demands:
1. Failure to approve of ZRR proposed tariff block;
2. KED Nationalization
