The same sex penguins have become parents of a child for the first time in the New York zoo.
The Elmer and Lima penguins first joined last year and built a nest in the fall, which protected them from foreign robbers.

The devotion to each other has prompted garden officials from Roasmond Gifford to test the pair as parents, using a fake egg before allowing them to take care of their fertilized egg.

Before giving the couple the egg, zoo officials tested Elmer and Lima as parents, placing a fake egg in the nest.
Some parents of penguins either keep the egg close to themselves, rather than sit on it to keep it hot, or fight each other for a chance to keep the egg hot. But not Elmer and Lima, who changed ranks by incriminating the egg until it opened.
”Elmer and Lima were exemplary in every aspect of the egg care,” said garden director Ted Fox.
After the couple passed the test, zoo officials replace the bedel egg with a truth that came from a pair of breeding penguins that have a history of breaking their accidentally fertilized egg.
The unidentified penguin baby is now said to be in good condition, as it continues to be viewed by the same sex couple.
