For years, a 43-year-old man visited an old monk of a Zug monastery. He made up confusing lies and used the monk's trust shamelessly.
Now, the Kosovo mechanic has been convicted of fraud.
Being a deeply devout person, the monk from the Zug monastery viewed him as his Christian duty to help others, broadcasting albinfo.ch.
So he constantly gave money to a mechanic. Once for an operation, next time for her daughter's schooling or for buying food. Years later it became clear that they were all stories of lies. The monk is thus the victim of a shameful fraud.
The 43-year-old accused had regularly visited the clergyman between 2017 and 2020 at the Zug monastery. He told him of the many emergencies and tragedies that had taken place in his life and thus met him in an open heart at the monk over 85 years old who always believed in people's good.
100,000 francs in 27 installments
He has given him 27 times various amounts of money over the years, thus reaching more than 100,000 francs, writes the zentralplus.ch. After spending his savings, the monk had borrowed from friends and acquaintances to continue helping his family.
The 43 - year - old's demands included a lack of money for his wife, who was suspected of suffering from cancer. The clergyman also paid for her burial. Later he had to finance his stay at the hospital or the education of the accused's daughter.
“He knew exactly how he should manipulate and pressure the monk so that he can make further payments as a result of his good nature and willingness to help”, the Zug Public Prosecutor's letter said under the penal order that has recently taken a firm form.
The clergyman could not control whether the emergency situations outside the country, which the Kosovar presented to him, were accurate, transmits albinfo.ch. In addition, the mechanic continued to tell him “evidence” forged in writing on this. For a long time, the monk himself refused to believe that he could be deceived. “I blindly believed the accused”, the public prosecutor says.
The priest had ignored warnings from his superiors and Caritas.
Given the fact that he has ignored all warning signals and ignored the most basic precautions, the public prosecutor's office places the so-called <x0-seconds responsibility of victim” as a burden on the priest, records albinfo.ch. This means that the sentence on the accused is softened because the victim has eased him.
A Last Chance
The Public Prosecutor's Office considers the 180-day fine appropriate for criminal fraud. Since the accused does not have enough income, savings, and no permanent residence in Switzerland, the penalty could still not be realized.
So the mechanic is sentenced to 180 days in prison on parole. He must hold so many days in prison if, within the next five years, he commits any criminal offence, records albinfo.ch. However, Kosovo has already held 69 days in detention.
