Swedish officials have banned a couple from appointing their child according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, without providing any specific reasons for the move.
According to the Daily Mail, tax authorities banned the couple from naming their child after the Russian president after new parents submitted a request to the agency in accordance with the country's law.
However, the request was rejected by the agency for unknown reasons. Under Swedish law, names may be rejected if they have an offensive context or could bring “concern for host”.
Public Broadcasting The SR said that the couple from Laholm in southern Sweden were told to change their name.
The incident is not the first of its kind, in the past, the Swedish tax agency has banned names, including Allah, Ford, Michael Jackson, Pilzner, Q and Token.
However, not every couple submits to the law. In 2017 a decision was successfully brought down by a girl's parents after the tax agency refused the name Metallica. On another occasion, parents named their son after the Google search engine.
In 2019, the names Lucas, Liam, and William were chosen most for young boys, while Alice, Olivia, and Astrid were the choice for girls' names.
