Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the leading American expert on infectious diseases, said the US was also monitoring the new version, which was first identified in Colombia in January and now account for 39 percent of cases, Report The New York Times, report Periscope.
The OBS said that the version had the potential to avoid immunity offered through vaccines and antibodies, and because of that it was listed as <x0);varian of interest”.
However, Mr. Fauci said that it was not a completely common option in the United States, where the highly contagious Delta version makes up 99 percent of the cases.
He said that the new version “has mutation resolutions suggesting it would avoid certain antibodies specified”.
Mr. Fauci said vaccines, however, were effective against variants with similar characteristics. /Periscope
