But in 2014, when then Prime Minister Hashim Thaci had halved his research taxes, it was the Vetevendosje Movement, which was headed by Albin Kurti, who accused Government and Prime Minister of destroying the University for Election Campaigns.
The Vetevendosje (LVV) movement through a media statement at the time said that “was in favour of the idea of education and free studies in all educational and public university institutions”, but the Kosovo Government's <x3-vediency received on April 2, 2014 for lowering taxes and student payment for 50, over the long term, significantly reduces the public university budget, respectively, of the self-imports of these universities<4>
Vetevendosje had even calculated the Pristina University budget reduction as a consequence of Prime Minister Thaci's decision.
“This government decision, only the University of Pristina if it applies for a full academic year to the annual budget for more than 5m euros”.
Besides “loss<x1 financial VV considered that half-taxing for students would also lose the quality of studies.
This will affect and greatly damage the functionality and quality of studies at Pristina University, but also in other public universities, since they will be forced to reduce capital and infrastructure investments, quantity and quality of services, as well as the number of academic and administrative personnel”.
The LVV persistently demanded that a special budget for the Public Universities be set up before the decision begins to be implemented so that the “pec at this point will be compensated for the large reduction of the university's own revenues”.
They even viewed the government's decision as an electoral decision.
“The government, especially outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, lowering taxes and payments without associated with budget increases, is held responsible for the destruction of public universities for clean electoral motives” says the end of the VV.
As of September 17th, just a day after the start of the election campaign, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti at a joint conference with Minister of Education Arberie Nagafci has said that <x0beson” that the decision made for free studies would spur even more interest in higher studies and that the general educational level of the population will improve.
This decision, according to him, will be “contributed to the development of human capital, which is the precondition for economic development and social progress”.
Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Arberie Nagavci has also disclosed the amount of annual cost that will cost Kosovo's budget after the decision.
The write-off will cost the Kosovo budget 1.7m euros per year for seven public universities”, Nagavci has said. /Albanianpost. com
