Hundreds of birds died after the crash in high buildings in New York City this week, believed to be bad weather.
A volunteer indicated that massive bird tweets were heard between September 14th and 15th as 291 birds died, writes The Hill.
When you have 226 dead migratory birds after being hit in the window one morning, it's hard to catch them all in a photograph,” wrote Melissa Breaker, saying another 65 birds died afterwards.
Associated director of the group for conservation and science, Caitlin Parkins, told the Associated Press that the number of dead birds reflects a continuous issue the organisation documents in a routine manner.
Parkins added that conditions of bad weather may also have contributed to the number of dead birds.
It seems that the storm may have brought the birds below it would have been, or just disoriented them,” told Parkins about the AP.
The effects of nightlight on birds are also quite strong, especially when it is a night of re”.
Parkins is asking the owners of the towers to make them safer for birds maybe by dimming the lights that “do it so they can see it and realize that it's a strong obstacle they can't fly”.
Seventy-seven birds were sent to a rehabilitation centre Tuesday, most of whom came from the shopping mall, said Bird Bird's Bird's Bird Fund director Ritamary McMahon. Thirty were healed and then released to Prosper Park in Brooklyn.
