President Ashraf Ghan left Afghanistan after the Taliban entered Kabul capital today, paving the way for their return to power two decades after the United States and their allies expelled them, Reuters reports.
Afghanistan's acting Minister of Internal Affairs Abdul Satal Mirzakaval said earlier that power would be passed over to the transitional administration.
The Taliban entered Kabul peacefully, a CNN reporter from Afghanistan's capital reported. As he said, the shots were heard in several locations, but there are no reports of street clashes or concentration of Afghan security forces to prevent their entry.
At the same time, Reuters reports that the Taliban have entered the presidential palace in Kabul.
