Deputy commander of the Fire Brigades in Pristina, Malke Gashi, has said 20 members have been positive affected with Avid-19, while as a consequence of this virus only one fireman has died.
There were 20 members of our service before being vaccinated with Covid-19, and some had a slightly heavier situation. And we've had another death case from the screwdriver. And we don't actually have any firemen who's touched by a screwdriver. The vaccine has begun. There's one of them, but it's very rare that there's a little bit of vaccination, it's more of a problem with taking the vaccine than the kind that's taken. And they also have hesitation in taking the vaccine, but it's not a large number”, Gashi said.
According to him, the budget is currently not very clear because they have no information that the municipality has shared the budget for 2021.
Our status is currently not very clear. The budget problem is a little less obvious. We have interior ministry workers with law in co-operation with the municipality. We get our salaries from the municipality. We don't have any information that the municipality has shared budgets, but it's important that when we have requests to the municipality and it supports us. Lately, clothes for water have been taken, beds bought for rest, and we have been supplied with stretchers for rescue of”, he told EO.
One of the firefighters, Shaban Krme, said the difficulties at the job are very large, adding that there is a shortage of workers and equipment to extinguish field fires.
Among other things, Gashi stressed that no additional hours were paid, no night shifts, and no weekends.
The difficulties in this job are huge. The biggest shortage at the moment is workers who are very small. During the day, we only have 5 firefighters covering two municipalities besides Pristina, Obilic, Fushe-Kosovo. And we also lack some equipment to extinguish field fires. We're constantly calling teams on the field, and there's a lot of work. With the capacity we have we try to cover all fields. We don't get paid for extra hours, or night shift, or weekend”, Hermione said.
