Exciting testimony at the first high profile session over the deadly riots of January 6th at Capitol Hill.
“M looked like I went to hell to protect them and people in this box”, relates Michael Marone of the Washington Police Department.
Four police officers confessed amid tears for a congressional investigative commission, the trauma experienced while defending Capitol in the worst attack in nearly two centuries.
About 800 supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed Congress as Benden's victory was certified, attacked law enforcement forces, insulted by racial epithets, sprayed them with chemicals and threatened to kill with his own weapons.
The protesters called me a traitor, and they shouted that I, an army veteran and police officer should be executed. What we experienced that day resembled a medieval battle. We fought hands for every inch to prevent the invasion of Capitol by a violent mob intended to disrupt our democratic process”, police officer Aquilino Gonelli relates.
They caught me and beat me while calling me a traitor. I was in danger of armed robbery and murder with my gun. I was hit many times with an electric weapon. I'm sure I was screaming, but I don't think I could hear my voice”, adds Michael Fanone.
The hearing also showed untransmitted videos showing violent clashes between police and protesters attacking the building.
Republican leaders say the riots are being widely investigated by law enforcement agencies and other Congress commissions, arguing that the latest investigation is simply a political theater and an attempt to cast a shadow over the republican party on the eve of the upcoming mid-term elections.
