The music you hear at mealtime can affect the kind of food you eat. This is the discovery of a new study by Aarhus University in Denmark, which compared food elections when people heard different kinds of music.
One group heard light, melancholic music that can cause sadness.
Researchers report that the slow - music group was more likely to consume healthier foods.
Perhaps because the group did not become distracted or experience negative emotions from music, they gave more attention to better food choices.
This is not the first time that noise affects what we eat.
In 2013 researchers at the University of Birmingham analyzed 24 studies on the effects of noise distractions and visual incentives such as television and found that not only do we eat more food at a meal when we are distracted but we eat more at the next meal as well.
