The orange flame, which looked like molten lava, was named as the “fire target” because of its round shape. Fire broke out near a state company platform, writes The Guardian.
Authorities said it took more than five hours for the fire to be completely extinguished. The flames began in a underwater pipe, linking it to a platform, several sources told Reuters.
The Pemex company said it was not reported to any injured persons and that production has not been affected in this case, adding that investigations will be conducted due to the flame.
Company workers reportedly used nitrogen during efforts to put fire under control. The company gave no further details about the incident.
