But if you wait only half an hour to go to sleep, for two thirds you will reduce your chance of having a heart attack. Every ten minutes of danger falls by ten percent.

The study, led by Christina-Maria Kastorini, expert on Mediterranean nutrition, said the research has not been intended to testify to the causes and effects, but only the connection between late dinner and possible heart attack.

About 1,000 respondents (500 of them have been healthy, 250 have had a heart attack, and 250 with acute coronary syndrome) have filled out questionnaires about sleeping and sleeping habits.

Compared with those who have had fewer than an hour before bedtime, those who have waited 60 to 70 minutes have had 66 percent less chance of having a heart attack.

People who have waited for 70 minutes to two hours have reduced this chance to 76 percent, for reasons so far unknown.

However, Dr. Kastorini considers that the answers can be found in an earlier study with which late dinner may be linked to high risk from reflux. Reflex is linked to apnean, while apne with the risk of heart attack.

David Holmes, professor of medicine at the Mayo clinic, has another theory: When we eat, blood sugar levels vary, as does cholesterol and blood flow. All these changes may contribute to the increased risk of heart attacks in sleep”.
