Pentagon spokesman John Kirby has said that the deadline for withdrawal, September 11th, is still in effect, but the pace could change.
Pentagon officials said last week that half the withdrawal of American troops had already been carried out, reports the BBC, translates Periscopi.
Afghanistan has been covered with an increase in violence until the US and NATO are preparing to withdraw the last remaining troops.
During the past month, Taliban have intensified their attacks and taken control of more than 30 districts.
The radical Islamic group has also received many military equipment and has killed or captured dozens of troops.
The spokesman for the Afghanistan government has denied that districts have fallen into the hands of the Taliban, saying they have been evacuated for tactical reasons.
The Taliban, meanwhile, claim to have taken control of the entire northern province of Kunduz.
“We are constantly looking at the situation, every day happy: what the situation is on the ground, what opportunities we have, what additional resources we need to pull out of Afghanistan and at what rate.” The spokesman said.
