This new bronze statue is a sixteenth of the size of the world's famous one standing on Freedom Island.
On Monday, during a special ceremony, the statue was commissioned by the National Museum of Arts and Masters (CNAM) in central Paris, where it has been installed since 2011. The statue will be erected at Ellis Island.
The statue, over 450 kilograms and 10m long, was completed in 2009 and is a copy of the original image of the 1878 statue preserved by CNAM.
“The statue symbolizes freedom and light worldwide, said Olivier Faron, general manager of CNAM. “We want to send a very simple message: our friendship with the United States is very important, especially at this moment. We must preserve and protect our friendship. ”
In 1886 a giant female-looking statue called the Statue of Liberty would be donated to the United States from France and would then be transformed into one of the symbols of the United States and the entire West.
