In several videos posted in social media, convicted Mafia leader Sedat Peker has made shocking accusations against Erdogan's party figures involving corruption, drug trafficking and cover-up of murders, stressing that there were strong links between senior government officials and the underworld, the AP writes.
Peker, believed to be staying in Dubai, has so far provided no data that documents these claims.
His charges have been targeted by Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, son of former Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, and a former minister sentenced with his son.
Videos on YouTube have received millions of views and have prompted the opposition to call for Soylu's resignation and the investigation into Peker's claims.
Breaking the week-long silence on these claims, Erdogan has described them as <x0->softial options” that oppose Turkey and its rule.
