Today, 38,400 doses of AstraZeneca Oxford vaccines COVID-19 arrived at Pristina Airport. Vaccines are produced and distributed by U NICEF through the COVAX Institute, which aims to ensure equal distribution of COVID vaccines-19 globally.

Today, present at the airport for the arrival of vaccines against COVID-19, were Kosovo Prime Minister, Mr. Albin Kurti, Health Minister, Mr. Arben Vitita, chief of the UNICEF Office in Kosovo, Mr. Murat Sahin, German Ambassador to Kosovo Jörn Rohde, French Ambassador to Kosovo Marie - Christian BUTEL, United Kingdom Ambassador Nicholas Abbott, U.S. Mission Chief AID in Kosovo, Mrs. Lisa Magno, Dr. Isme Hummolli from O BSH and EU Ambassador Mr. Tomákh Szunyogand, and Mrs. Ulrika Richardson, UN Development Coordinator.
Since the arrival of the first 24,000 doses of the vaccine, the Health Ministry has implemented the national settlement and vaccine plan, where health care workers and the elderly have priority as the first groups to be vaccinated. With the arrival of today's second group, the extent of the national settlement and vaccine plan will continue in priority groups such as other health workers, chronically ill people and other priority groups described in the plan.
Murat Sahin, chief of the UNICEF Office in Kosovo, thanked COVAX partners and donors for their critical support to provide vaccines for all. The surrender of these 34800 additional doses is another step in the fight against COVID-19. U n NICEF is committed to continuing to support the Ministry of Health in implementing the national vaccine and deployment plan. Together we can create a safe, new normal for all the young children in Kosovo”, he said.

COVAX is co-chaired by Gavi, the Alliance of Vaccines, the World Health Organisation (OBSH) and the Coalition for Epidemiological Readiness Innovations (CEPI). It's part of the Access Accelerators in COVID-19 (ACT) Tools, a unique global co-operation to accelerate development, production and equal access to tests, treatments and vaccines COVID-19. COVAX Institute aims to deliver at least 2 billion doses of vaccines against COVID-19 in participating countries, including at least 1.3 billion doses financed by donors in 92 countries with lower incomes by the end of 2021.
38,400 doses of AstraZeneca Oxford vaccines against COVID-19 that arrived today are part of the February division until May 2021 of the total 100,800 AZ doses. In addition, 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Kosovo by the end of this month.
Vaccination is an essential tool and the best hope of ending the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 vaccines provided through COVAX have been subjected to rigorous testing and evaluation of security and efficiency and approved for use by O BSH. COVID-19 vaccines have proved to protect people from serious diseases and death. Anyway, the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet. In the meantime, it is necessary for the general public to continue following the currently imposed preventive measures by wearing masks, respecting the physical distance and good hand hygiene of the hands to limit the spread of COVID-19 and to contribute to the prevention of death and serious diseases caused by the pandemic COVID-19.
