At least 15 other states have reported between eight and 900 cases. After increasing cases, 29 countries of India have been told to declare the disease an epidemic.
Newly opened departments to treat disease patients throughout the country are filling up quickly, doctors say.
At the Maharaja Yeshaantrao state hospital with a thousand and 100 beds, the number of patients increased from eight, a week ago, to 185 on Saturday evening. While more than 80 per cent of patients need surgery immediately, the BBC told VP Pandey, head of the medical department at the hospital.
The black mushroom infection has now become more challenging than COVID-19. If patients are not treated in time and properly, then the mortality rate may amount to 94 per cent. The cost of treatment is expensive and medicines are being spent”, Dr Pandey said.
A special study by four Indian doctors has found that more than 100 cases of patients with COVID-19 had taken mukomica. He discovered that 79 of them were men, and 83 of them suffered from diabetes.
The normally rare infection, called mucomicosis, has a death rate of 50 percent, with some being saved taking only one eye away. Doctors say that there is a connection to steroids used to treat COVID-19 and that it appears to hit 12 to 18 days after Coronavirus recovery. And diabetes is at special risk.
Mucormicosis is a very rare infection. It is caused by exposure to moldus, which is usually found on earth, plants, organic manure, and fruits and vegetables in decay.
It affects sinuses, brain, lungs and may be life threatening in diabetes individuals, cancer patients, or HIV/ AIDS.
