(5 years ago)The FBI's extraordinary raid on the apartment and office of former Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has sparked debate over the criminal charges he was facing, and has signalled an extensive criminal investigation into Ukraine's drive to help Trump in the [...] elections.
The high-profile nature of this raid was meant to have to be signed by a senior justice department official, underlining the seriousness and progress of the investigation. Some of Giulian's electronic devices, which may serve as ongoing proof, were seized in the raid.
A raid involving a lawyer is always a sensitive matter, and even more when the lawyer is the president's lawyer,” said Mary McCord, the former prosecutor who led the national security division to the last Department of Justice of Obama Administration until May 2017.

Former prosecutors and lawyers have stressed that Giuliani appeared to have relied heavily on some Ukrainian contour officials, including a politician associated with Russian dezinforms, in efforts to find stains on Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
They also stressed that Giuliani had an important role in the collapse of the US ambassador to Kiev.
Such an investigation could thus be extended to former US President Donald Trump. /Periscope
