Germany should not hesitate to take urgent measures and turn into a strict deadlock, if necessary, Chancellor Angela Merkel said today, following a high-level meeting between the federal government and states concerning the country's slow vaccine.
State and federal representatives had agreed to set up a strict deadlock to prevent the spread of the virus, if the so-called seven-day incident rate reaches more than 100 cases of 100,000 people again, the ATS reports.
I was hoping we'd get out without using this emergency brake, but this won't be possible if I saw the development of past days”, Merkel said.
As the country records a third wave of cases, with the most rapidly distributed British version, some states have already imposed restrictions, while others prevented planned relief.
Seven-day incidents rose to 95.6 yesterday, from 90 days ago, according to the Robert Koch (RKI) Institute for Disease Control.
