Turkey's president, Recep Tayip Erdogan, said that when the works for the domestic vaccine are finished, they anticipate offering the vaccine in the use of all people in more adequate conditions.

President Erdoğan sent a video message entitled “Development Funding During and After COVID-19” to activity organised by the United Nations (OKB) with the participation of heads of states and governments, reports Anadolu Agency (AA).

His speech Erdoğan began with thanks to participants and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as well as the prime ministers of Canada and Jamaica for this meaningful initiative.

COVID-19's “Pandemia, which has left behind a period of 1 years, has presented to the eye that the fate of humanity is shared in the face of global problems”, said Erdoğan, who added that Turkey has been trying to strengthen global solidification and international co-operation since the beginning of this war.

With this approach, Turkey has provided support and medical assistance to 157 countries and 12 international organisations, Erdoğan said, continuing further:

We have not left our African brothers alone in these difficult days alone. In the 2009-2019 period, we've made $2.5 billion official development aid only for less developed countries. COVID-19's pandemic has discovered once again the deviations in the global system we've expressed on almost every platform. The global pandemic, which has caught even the richest countries in the world unprepared, has caused serious collapses, especially for the developed countries of the least”.

The injustice that becomes even more clear with pandemic has become much more serious with the vaccine issue. We see that about 100 countries in the world cannot yet have access to vaccines. In the name of humans and human values, there is an alarming situation that billions of people have not even provided the first dose of vaccine while there are places that have vaccinated nearly the entire population. It is clear that the pandemic will not end, and economic recovery will not be realised without ensuring fair access to vaccine”, Erdogan said.

He stressed that countries that have achieved the amount to vaccinate their citizens must distribute surplus vaccines to countries in need.

“Errors should include 2021”

When we finish our work on the local vaccine, we will provide our vaccine in the use of all people in more appropriate conditions”, said Erdogan, who added that it is important that, instead of economic recovery, defence reflexes, develop a more co-operative and solidifying approach.

“I hope that in the 16th Review work of the International Monetary Fund General Framework the right expectations of the developing countries will be met. Along with strengthening the possibilities of liquidity we attach importance to easing the debt burden of countries with mainly low incomes. The step towards postponing the G-20 debt is an important step we have put into action to reduce the effects of pandemic”, Erdoğan said.

“We find it helpful to extend for the second time for the extension of debts in order to fully include 2021”, Erduğan said, noting that steps should be completed as soon as possible for “to collect the rights of special withdrawal” that have come to a day in line at G-2008).

After emphasising the importance of joint action within solidification and co-operation in this difficult process, President Erdogan expressed thanks for those who have contributed to the development of this activity.
