NATO supports the development of the Kosovo Security Force, but only in their original mandate.
So expressed exclusively for Clen Kosova.tv, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of this organization.
“Since December 2017, I have made it clear that this move [the transformation process] was in the wrong time and that the decision was taken against the advice it gave NATO. NATO continues to support the development of the Kosovo Security Force under its original mandate, that of a civil defence force” respectively, Stolernberg has indicated.
With the change of mandate, the North Atlantic Council is reviewing NATO's level of engagement with the Kosovo Security Force. Discussions between allies about this purpose are continuing”.
Stoltenberg has also responded about the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, which he has described as key to the stability of the Western Balkan region.
We call on Belgrade and Pristina to continue their efforts towards normalising relations between them, in particular through the process of dialogue mediated by the European Union, which is aimed at reaching a comprehensive, stable and legally binding agreement, which NATO continues to support. It continues to remain a matter of importance for the peace and security of the” region.
Stoltenberg has also been asked about the possible commitment of KSF to foreign missions along with NATO, the movement of borders in the Balkans, and the future of this region, what he says he believes is the alliance he now heads.
