“We will call Albin Kurti a traitor for dialogue with Serbia”

Xhavit Haliti is one of the most active politicians of the Democratic Party of Kosovo in the country's political debates. In an interview for Periscope, he has spoken about the question of dialogue, Albin Kurti as prime minister, co-operation with Vetevendosje and the withdrawal of the warrant for Milan Radojici. Haliti has had a critical tone against previous governments in which his party participated, The PDK, while declaring that this party will co-operate with Kurti and Vetevendosje in the country's best interests.

A statement that is not quite surprising takes into account PDK opposition during 2020.

He has been extremely frustrated with the withdrawal of the warrant for Milan Radocicici, the Serbian politician who was suspected of killing politician Oliver Ivanovic.

Haliti in this interview has also spoken of the consequences the country may have if Kurti decides the measure of reciprocity and does not enter into dialogue with Serbia.

Periscope: EU Emisari for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak during his visit to Kosovo made it clear to VV) leader Albin Kurti that dialogue must be completed during his government mandate. Meanwhile Mr. Kurt didn't prioritize this case. What do you think will happen next?

Xhavit Haliti: This visit to Lajcak is very important for Kosovo, the European Union and stability in the region. What Kurt has six or seven issues, he may have 17th, but the talks should continue and we are not so competent and so influential on international policies that we impose EU and US priorities. Kosovo, its freedom as much as we've gained is human, material, political, military and EU investment. We can't just cut down why we write our priorities on paper. I understand that priority is economic development, fighting corruption and employing citizens. It is very important for Kosovo. So is Kosovo's foreign policy and domestic policy in inter-national reports and issues related to the stabilisation and integration of the region into the EU. Kosovo should continue talks because Kosovo does not lose anything from them. Talks in Brussels are necessary and it would be a priority for Kosovo to face all issues.

Periscope: What is the role of unifying political parties before going to talks in Brussels and do you believe a reconciliation will be reached?

Xhavit Haliti: We shouldn't go to Brussels without talking to each other in Pristina because in the long run, the party that has gone to Pristina has been declared a traitor. I didn't want to reveal traitors to those who talk, but to implement state policies dealing with the future of the country and the unifying policies of the political spectrum in Kosovo. Going to delegations that have moved forward, so 50 people to Brussels, that's nothing. But in Pristina we have to talk and be transparent with each other and decide on issues related to Kosovo's future.

Periscope: When you mention party co-operation on this issue, what will be the role of The opposition PDK. How many will you co-operate with the Vetevendosje Movement?

Xhavit Haliti: Vetevendosje first is the Kosovo Albanian party and has won the elections. The interest as much as the VVA's is, too, The PDK, other parties, and non-Albanians, to co-operate and solve the problem involving a political node that would free the entire Balkans from this situation and speed up integration into the European Union. I don't believe there's anybody in the PDK who has a VVA or their party that has only PDK opposition. Understandably, in the opposition, we will play our opposition role, but the country's interests we have set the example even in the past legislature, when the country's interests are in question. We will agree that after talks and agreements, we will also vote in the parliament and support the good work Government can do.

Periscope: What if Albin Kurti puts reciprocity and Serbia still refuses to enter dialogue?

Xhavit Haliti: If Kurti or whoever it is, decides issues that are contrary to Western orientation and the interests of Kosovo, the fate of that government will be very short. Life expectancy of that government will be very short.

Periscope: What do you believe would be the consequences for Kosovo if Kurti with his rule decided to boycott dialogue despite international calls?

Xhavit Haliti: The result is all that. We need economic development, free market, democratization, and not much for great patriotism. The issue of freedom is sealed. No one can change the political course of America or the EU in relation to Kosovo independence. But we can prevent Kosovo's economic development, integration into the EU and we can give Serbia additional arguments to fight us through its diplomatic mechanisms and accuse us that we are not ready for topics both the EU and the US are interested in being resolved. Kosovo loses with an uprising in relation to the EU. They wouldn't beat us, they wouldn't even put us in jail for why we're building them but we hurt ourselves because we're limited to all the rights other countries have.

Periscope: How do you see the Supreme Court's decision to withdraw the warrant on Milan Radociqi?

Xhavit Haliti: There are two important events in Kosovo. One is very bitter because the Special Court has taken the decision to absolve the Serbian criminal who has been charged with the murder of Deputy Speaker Ivanovic, Radoici. Straight to say I don't know how it is possible without legal procedure with freedom, and I am confident that in the anals of EU rapporteurs and justice in Kosovo will receive negative marks.

Periscope: How do you see future Government on domestic issues, where the winner of the election, Albin Kurti, is expected to come to the top?

Xhavit Haliti: I can't say without the government's list and without the government being approved in Parliament. Whenever she passes, when we see her programme, who will be the prime minister, the ministers. What will be their program, then we can give either individual or Government opinion. The important thing will be to see how he will deal with his citizens, Mr. Kurti and the Government, which may come after the Parliament's establishment and the approval of the Government.
