CNN reports that the mouse movement has become more visible in the British capital as long as the deadlock lasts over statements by workers dealing with the disinfectation of rodents.
While many restaurants and office buildings in downtown London are empty, rats are forced to migrate to more inhabited areas in search of food.
Families spending more time at home and eating all their meals there have led to an increase in garbage, which is drawing rats to peripheral dwellings, and encouraging rodents to dig into the courtyards.
The municipal disinfection worker tells CNN of an elderly lady who had called after having between 10 and 15 mice digging around flower beds.
Another employee shows that he has seen worse east of the capital. He says he recently killed a mouse colony in a hut, while expressing fears that London may receive a big surprise when it reopens if businesses and properties have not taken measures to disinfect. He says he normally gets about 10 calls for rodents a week, but during the impasse he was 20 plus.
The British Association of Injury Control ( BPCA said its members reported a 51% increase in rodent activity during the first deadlock, in the spring of 2020, and an increase of 78% in November after another impasse, while still not counting the numbers for this year.
