No political goal is valid for sacrificing peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, these are the words of Serb leader Milorad Dodik, who several days ago threatened the Dayton Agreement with his separatist ideas, prompting serious concerns about an armed conflict.
The debut of the member of the tripartite interethnic presidency came after the visit of the special appointment of the United States for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and after meeting with Turkish President Rexhep Tayip Erdogan.
They have their looks, but they want peace to be preserved here. I told them I didn't sacrifice peace for nothing. Peace is the only way for Republika Srpska and it is its policy, not war or conflicts”, said Milorad Dodik, a member of the Bosnian presidency.
Dodik's comments came as Bosnia experiences the worst political crisis since the end of the recent war.
Fear of a new conflict arose after Bosnian Serbs in late July blocked the work of the central government, while Dodik warned possible withdrawal from institutions, including the military, judiciary and tax administration.
The leader of Serbs says the three institutions, which are the main pillars of the state, founded on decisions by international peace representatives, are not included in the constitution and have proved useless sites. However, the Bosnian Constitution is part of the peace agreement. To overcome the crisis, Dodik requires the annulment of around 140 laws by the end of November.
