Kosovo has offered the United States the opportunity to establish a permanent military base in Kosovo.
This proposal, on behalf of the Government of Kosovo, has been granted by Kosovo Defence Minister Armend Mehaj, who at the Pentagon held meetings with US Department of Defence Undersecretary Colin Kahl.
According to a media report, Minister Mehaj has said that establishing such a base would contribute <x0nd) too much regional peace and stability in the Balkans”.
Camp Bondsteel in Ferizaj is the largest military camp the US has in Kosovo.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary Kahl, according to the Defence Ministry's announcement, has reconfirmed US support for Kosovo towards Euro-Atlantic integration, “stressing that American President Joe Biden's vision of the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU remains in the priority agenda”.
Also, Mehej and Kahl have talked about the work of the Kosovo Security Force, while Undersecretary Kahl has promised that his state's support for KSF will be continuous.
Both have praised the partnership in the first KSF peacekeeping mission in Kuwait and Kosovo's participation in NATO forces exercise “Defender- Europe21”.
Kosovo, in co-operation with American forces, sent a KSF contingent to Kuwait in March, which is the first mission abroad of this force.
