She added that Germany is facing a difficult phase, while health officials announced that 1,798 new cases of infection and 17 fatal cases have been recorded Wednesday for 24 hours.
The Chancellor agreed with the 16 regional prime ministers Tuesday that private accommodations should be limited to 25 people and that fines will be given to all those who do not provide precise contact data to help communicate contacts.
However, she expressed her hope that the situation will improve. The “Family will have a party again; clubs, theatres and football stadiums will still be full, but now we have to show that we can continue to behave with patience and sensitivity and thus we can save lives”, Chancellor Merkel added.
