Erdogan and France's president, Emmanuel Macron, have exchanged insults over the past few months after having disputed a range of issues, ranging from Libya and parts of the Middle East until Turkey's maritime dispute with Greece.
Macron angered Ankara last week when he criticised the way Turkey is being governed by Erdogan, saying this country “deserved something else”.
The European Union will discuss next week the possibility of sanctions on Turkey, following sending its ships to Mediterranean waters to search for oil and gas.
Cyprus and Greece have claims towards this region, reports AFP.
Disagreements between Turkey and France escalated further after France last month sent naval ships to the eastern Mediterranean to help Greek warships.
Erdogan accused the EU of implementing double “standards against Turkey for a long time”.
Erdogan said at a virtual meeting of his ruling party that Macroni's <x0logy, blaming Turkey for regional problems, did not function”.
“If Turkey withdraws from Syria, will Syria achieve peace?”, he asked while citing a list of countries that are at odds.
The hostility between the two leaders has increased since Macron warned that the lack of NATO response to a Turkish operation in northern Syria showed that the alliance was going through a “brain mortality”.
Regarding Libya, disputes between the two countries stand in the fact that Turkey supports the UN-renowned government in Libya. There are doubts France favours a parallel government and its leader, the general, Khalifa Haftar, but officially denies it.
