On September 9th, Ragip Cateazi from the village of Syrigana in the Istog municipality received news that his sister died at the Intensive Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, where she was also hospitized as patients with the COVID-19, the disease that causes the coronary.

However, he began to suspect that his 71-year-old sister had died of the virus, as she had not received any official documents from doctors who proved she had been infected.

“On the third day at the hospital I've been notified that there is COVID-19, but in conveying the therapy the situation has been stable, and it has sometimes deteriorated”, Cateazi says.

What medicine has done, I can't judge those things. They told me the sister had died of the virus, but I didn't get any letters from the doctor she was positive with COVID-19 or negative”, he tells Radio Free Europe.

Cateazi decided that his doubts confirm and demanded that his sister become an autopsy.

Two days after his sister died, the results proved to be different from what had been said earlier.

There is no presence of ARN of the SARS-Cov-2 virus in the tested sample. The test was conducted with the Real Time PCR”, the Kosovo National Public Health Institute report said after conducting autopsy.

Cateazi tells Radio Free Europe that he has not been able to attend even his sister's funeral, since he has been told to remain in proselytized because he was constantly in his sister's company.

Objection for Every Dead
A confusion over the number of deaths from COVID-19 has been created on September 19th.

In the daily announcement of the Kosovo National Public Health Institute (IKSHPK), three cases of death were first reported on that day, but three hours later through a reaction this Institute said cases reported as deaths by COVID-19 had resulted negative.

Neuropsichiatri Jusuf Ulaj tells Radio Free Europe that to avoid doubts about deaths from this virus, then any suspicious deaths should be observed.

“Deaths cannot be deleted, but are suspected of political interference as far as dynamics and the daily number of reporting is concerned. There are cases that pass infection and get negative in testing, but they continue to have complications after the infection passes. Thus, some may die after they have treated the virus, and there may therefore be errors in precisely determining the cause of death and reporting them”, Ulaj says.

However, Hospital Service Director and University Clinic (SSHKUK) Valbon Krasniqi tells Radio Free Europe that there is no room for doubt as to the number of deaths from COVID-19.

Krasniqi says the decline in the number of new cases infected with coronarys is not necessarily followed even by lowering the number of cases requiring immediate hospital treatment.

“The combination of this infection is conducted from one to two weeks. It is expected, then, that the number of new cases will begin to decline after this period. Similarly, the number of those who end up with the fatalities is not expected to decrease at least two weeks from when the number of new cases infected” starts to decline, Krasniqi says.

Trust in the Health Sector Stalled
TheKatazi family case is not the first in Kosovo. Another case occurred during April.

After allegedly having family members of a 39-year-old woman from Istog, who was the victim of eight of the coronavirus in Kosovo, asked that autopsy be made.

None of her family had proved positive with coronarys, so at their request the body had been exhumed to perform autopsy.

The results confirmed that it had not been infected.

Early in July, exactly July 5, some family members raised doubts about the death of their relatives who were extended to the Infectious Clinic as patients with COVID-19.

Infectologist Hamdi Ramadani, now retired, tells Radio Free Europe that controversial statements by various doctors and health experts have influenced citizens not to believe their relatives are dying from COVID-19.

This has made people - citizens or family members of the deceased - wonder whether the disease is eventually caused by COVID-19 or other diseases. That's what I'm saying is that these deaths, we still don't know if they're caused by COVID-19”, he says.

Small test number
Until more than 500 tests are done in Kosovo within the day, in the neighbouring country, northern Macedonia, between 1,000 and 1, 500 tests are conducted.

Infectologist Hamdi Ramadani says that more tests must be done in Kosovo to become a real assessment of the situation with COVID-19.

The number of tests is too small, extremely small. Without knowing how many people we have tested, and how positive and negative we have, we find it difficult to prove how the disease will behave in a week or three weeks, Ramadani says.

The first cases of corruption in Kosovo were presented in March. Since then, more than 15 thousand Kosovo citizens have been infected with Coronavirus, and about 13 thousand have recovered.

Until, according to official records, over 600 people died.
