The gas field is situated at a depth of 2,100m below the sea on the Sarkarya gas field, some 170 km from the Black Sea coast.
Birol said that an investment of about six billion dollars is needed to begin production, which is expected to begin in 2023.
Gas could transform Turkey's dependence on Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan into the context of energy imports, which cost the country 41 billion dollars last year.
Turkey imports about 45 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually, and the price is approximately $12 billion.
