Switzerland registered today, for the second time this week, more than 300 new cases of COVID-19, an elusive level since mid-April.
“The situation is under control, but remains fragile”, Swiss Health Minister Alain Berset praised, noting a specific reduction of discipline within the population and calling for respect for barrier gestures and quarantine measures.
The Swiss government did not impose restrictions as strict as other European countries, but were gradually removed from April 27th, allowing students to return to schools in mid-May.
Since mid-June, however, the number of new daily issues has continued to rise, forcing authorities to take measures, the ATS reports.
Since July, wearing protective masks has become mandatory in public transportation and in several cantons, such as Geneva, where the number of cases has increased especially, their use has also become obligatory in shops.
Geneva has also closed nightclubs, bars and other entertainment sites to curb the spread of COVID-19.
