The New Kosovo coalition (AKR) believes Kosovo should work with its allies in the process of normalising relations with Serbia that should lead to mutual recognition. AKR chairman Behgjet Pacolli in an interview for Kosova priss has also spoken about his candidacy for president, but also about discussions by political parties on the post.
While supporting the no-confidence motion on Vetevendosje government, Pacolli has said he will continue to play a constructive role on the Kosovo political scene, but that they are not for elections in time of pandemic.
He said the AKR is ready for choice, but that in time of pandemic, it would not prefer to keep up.
Since entering Kosovo politics, I have played a constructive role to ensure that Kosovo has a functional government. Since 2008, I have supported every government because I believe Kosovo needs political and economic stability to proceed with needed reforms. The AKR will continue to play a constructive role on Kosovo's political scene, working with all parliamentary parties and seeking consensus on key national and state issues. Governments depend on the majority in the Assembly. We will see how things develop, but I think we should not have elections during the pandemic, but we must work to build unity and consensus on key issues such as pandemic, dialogue, economy and The Hague tribunal. Citizens expect the government and parliament to work. We often mix power with state. There should be no government against the opposition on key issues for the state. But we have to stay together. That's my approach to politics”, Pacolli said.
“The AKR is always ready for choice. We work with our structures in Kosovo to prepare the party for the challenges we can face as a country and work with citizens on the ground to promote our vision and programme. We are not the ones who decide when we go to the elections, but we are ready and prepared to go to the elections whenever the Assembly deems necessary”, Pacolli said.
