Democratic League of Kosovo MP Valentina Bulnjaku-Rexiepi said several articles of the KLA War Values Protection Bill leave room for misinterpretation. According to her, these may be considered interventions in freedom of expression and opinion.
During the discussion on this bill proposed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bunjaku-Rexhepi said the LDK requires specific changes to this bill.
“We as the LDK Parliamentary Group have noted some issues that leave room for misinterpretation and can be regarded as interference in freedom of expression and freedom of thought. And the obligation for action for citizens contrary to their freedoms and rights. As is the case with Article 2, or other articles, they are pronounced problems and are at the limit of constitutionality. We want these specific changes to be made in this bill. At Article 2 “citizens' duty to protect KLA values” must be reformed. After leaving space for different interpretations and this adversely affects freedom of expression and thought”, she said.
She said how the Parliamentary Group views with concern the statements of citizens and EU representatives on the KLA's Protection of Values bill.
The “takes on many concerns, care and commitment of the statements of the EU representatives and the American ambassador, who, among other things, says “Law criminalises freedom of expression, frightens citizens”. So we as the Parliamentary Group are engaged in reforming some of the articles, and treating them very carefully. Because above all for us the priority remains the preservation of democracy, freedom of expression. These values, promoted by the founder of the state, by President Ibrahim Rugova”, have been added.
