Six months of reporting the first cases with Corleone in Kosovo, government officials and other health authorities have increased calls for caution to citizens, since 10,988 people affected by COVID-19, which causes the virus across Kosovo's territory, have so far been reported.

These figures have influenced the filling of Kosovo hospitals with coronary-infected patients.

Kosovo's own prime minister, Avdullah Hoti, has praised the epidemiological situation as heavy.

“Battle with this pandemic is not won only by doctors, nurses, police and inspectorate. This is the battle of all of us, each citizen. We need high awareness to maintain public health, or we will face distressing situations. We need to find courage for our children, who need to start learning soon, as well as for our parents who are suffering the most”, Hoti wrote on the social network, Facebook.

Over 100 patients infected with this virus are currently being treated at the Infectious Clinic of the University Clinical Centre in Kosovo.

Lindita Ayzaj, director of the Infectious Clinic in Pristina, has told Radio Free Europe that medical staff is overworked and loaded.

We're constantly working from the beginning of the pandemic, it's been six months from the first case, and we're going on and on. The staff is very tired. They've been working around the clock, and as far as our annual vacation as an Infectious Clinic staff, we haven't taken it, because of the current pandemic situation. And we still don't have any official confirmation that the annual holiday” can be exploited, Ajazaj said.

Infectian Sali Ahmeti has called for respect for measures on the part of citizens, because in addition to personal protection, health staff work would be facilitated.

We are doing six months today, when we have confirmed the first case with Covid-19 in Kosovo. All QKUK staff and regional hospitals are being met intensively because of the significant increase in cases and overload of hospitals. The staff is burdened with tiredness but have not surrendered and are performing their jobs with dignity. It would be good to respect the measures to be affected in reducing the number of cases, and that would also facilitate the work of health staff '%s', he has declared Radio Free Europe.
