Honey can be more useful than conventional cough treatments, stuck noses, and throat pain, according to researchers.
Doctors may even recommend it as an alternative medical tool rather than antibiotics, says Oxford University, The Guardian, broadcasts news.
Respiratory infections affect the nose, throat, throat area, which usually lead to their blocking.
There is scientific evidence that honey has been used in children for a long time to treat coughing and cooling. In addition, there has been a lack of systematic review of the effectiveness of this food in adults.
To address this, scientists looked at the fundamentals of researching relevant studies, comparing honey and preparations that included it as a common ingredient. They found 14 suitable clinical trials, including 1,761 participants of different ages.
Analysis of research data showed that honey was more effective than the usual care for improving symptoms, especially for easing the severity of coughing. Two of the studies showed that symptoms lasted one to two days less among those treated with honey.
Researchers suggest that honey can provide an alternative when doctors want to describe something to treat the symptoms of the upper respiratory leaf.
