The European Union is aware of the Serbian gendarmerie's entry into Kosovo's territory.
On Saturday (August 7th), the Serbian gendarmerie has entered Kosovo territory, specifically in the village of Karacheva in Kamenica.
Their entry had raised fears among residents and reactions different from the political scene.
Meanwhile, KFOR itself has been declared around their entry, since this part of Kosovo's territory is under their authority.
According to KFOR, synchronized patrols had been conducted in Karace, which, according to them, such patrols have been realised since 2008.
On August 07th 2020, around 17:20th, KFOR elements from the Regional East Command held a fully Synchronized patrol with Serbian Armed Forces counterparts at the Administrative Border Line near the village of Hodonoc, in the municipality of Kamenica. Since 2008, synchronizated patrols are held together by KFOR and the Serbian Armed Forces along the Administrative Border Line to provide security and ensure there are no accidents. In this direction, KFOR also conducts joint patrols with Kosovo Security Organisations in the vicinity of the Administrative Border Line”, KFOR's clarification said.
The chief spokesperson for the European Ministry for Foreign Affairs in the European Union, Peter Stano, has not given any comments, but has simply indicated that they have seen KFOR's response, saying that you should refer to Kosovo authorities for more details.
“We have seen information provided by KFOR on Saturday. Other questions should be addressed to them or to the competent Kosovo authorities”, Stano has told the news.net.
Two days after Serbian gendarmes were seen patrolling in Karacheva, in the same area they were recorded patrolling Kosovo police as well.
On the other hand, during Sunday Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Melza Haradinaj has said that the patrol of Serbian gendarmerie on Kosovo's territory has been unauthorised, as she pointed out, no one has the mandate to do patrols with Serbian gendarmerie within Kosovo's territory.
