At least seven people died after a massive fire broke out in a hotel that was being used as a temporary hospital for people affected by Ovid-19 in the South India region of Andhra Pradesh in early Sunday, Indian police reported.
Some persons who were confined and injured were rescued and sent to a government hospital. The fire is under control, but search and extinguish operations are still continuing”, police said.
India's Interior Minister Ami Shah wrote on Twitter: “deeply grieved by news of the tragic accident and fire at a centre for Covid-19 in Vilyawa, Andhra Prandes. The centre has all possible support from the state government. My condolences for the families affected at this time of grief. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured”.
This is not the first case that coronary patients suffer from fire in India. Last week, eight patients with Ovid 19 died from a fire that broke out in a private hospital in the western Indian town of Ahmedabad.
Regional Prime Minister in Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy, has instructed officials to conduct investigations into the fire explosion at the hotel being used as a hospital.
