National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien has said the United States is looking forward to these important discussions with Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq and believes economic progress is essential for advancing the peace process.
National Security Council Robert O'Brien has invited leaders of Serbia and Kosovo to Washington on 4 September. The United States hopes in these important discussions with President Vuciq and Prime Minister Hoti. We believe that progress in economic issues, including job creation and accelerating economic growth, is the first step in the progress of the peace process “, spokesman John Ulliot has said.
The meeting at the White House was originally scheduled for 27 June, but plans failed because the Hague-based Prosecutor's Office in The Hague published the announcement of the establishment of still unconfirmed accusations against Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and PDK Chairman Kadri Veseli as suspects of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Meanwhile, July 16th, Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic held the first meeting after 20 months mediated by the European Union.
The two leaders discussed the issue of missing persons during the war, economic development and reconciliation to continue talks on September 7th.
