A former official of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been arrested in the United States and has been charged with spying on China, the US Department of Justice has announced.
Alexander Yuk Ching Ma, 67-year-old, faces maximum punishment or life sentence if convicted on charges of plotting with a relative, as well as CIA official, to provide classified information for protection among Chinese intelligence officials, the Department of Justice has said through a report to the media.
I'm expected to appear before the court on August 18th, until Havana Prosecutor Kenji Price has said the accused's actions constitute treason of the United States.
The “those offering information for the People's Republic of China will not escape from the long wing of the law”, Price said.
Ma, American naturalized but born in Hong Kong, started working at the CIA in 1982 and had access to extremely important information.
Prosecutors have said Ma left the CIA in 1989, and lived and worked in Shanghai, China, before she arrived in Havana in 2001.
A three-day meeting in Hong Kong was mentioned in the indictment, during which, Ma was seen in some recordings profiting $50,000 for the secrets he and his relative have offered.
The court's documents have said that Masi Ma has returned to Havana, he has been aiming to be employed as a Linguist at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to gain access to the secrets of the American government, to then hand them over to the Chinese spies. /Rel
