The European Union is considering new sanctions against Turkey regarding its gas research in the eastern Mediterranean, a region discussed with Greece, EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrell said today.
“In the absence of progress on this issue, we can develop a list of further restrictive measures”, he said, following a two-day meeting of EU foreign ministers in Berlin.
These sanctions will then be discussed during the next summit, September 24th.
Tensions between Greece and Turkey have been exacerbated over the past months, with Turkey continuing hydrocarbon drilling in the Mediterranean and Greece considering them illegal. / AT SH-DPA/
