American expert for the September 4th meeting: US needs to understand that without EU, no dialogue

American professor and expert for the Balkans, Alon Ben Meir, has commented on the meeting, to be held 4 September in Washington between Kosovo and Serbia.

According to Ben Meir, it is very important not to bypass the EU in this process, because according to him, it has produced many agreements between Kosovo and Serbia.

On the other hand, Ben Meir has said the US should be aware that while Kosovo and Serbia are aiming for European integration, no normalisation process can go without the EU's direct evolution in negotiations.

“After having the same meeting failed because of the special indictment of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, Kosovo and Serbia leaders will meet on 4 September at the White House. After nearly a decade of Europe's effort to normalise reports between the two drives, the United States has now moved. However, it is very important not to ignore the EU in this process, because they have so far produced some agreements between the two states. After Kosovo and Serbia are aimed at European integration, the US must clearly understand that there is no normalisation process without the direct evolution of EU officials in the negotiations process”, he has written.
