German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and France's President Emmanuel Macron announced after today's video summit that on Sunday no frozen dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia will continue two years ago in Brussels. Instead of meeting organised by Miroslav Lajcak on Sunday, Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbia's president will continue consultations through a video conference with President Macron and Chancellor Merkel. As the meeting, scheduled to take place on July 12th in Brussels, has been postponed for July 16th.
“The entrepreneurs have discussed future steps in the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue supported by the European Union. Negotiations between the two sides will begin with a video conference that will be held on 12 July and with the first meeting in Brussels on 16 July”, Chancellor Merkel and President Macron said in the joint communique.
Hoti: Serbia not interested in normalisation
Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti declared after the video summit that “relations with Serbia remain in Kosovo an issue of concern”. Hoti said many agreements have been reached since 2011. While those that have been applied “have improved people's lives in both countries”.
” Since the start of dialogue in 2011, Serbia has continued to launch campaigns against Kosovo membership in international organisations and by lobbiing against recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by other states of”, Hoti stressed. Such harmful practices, according to him, damaged the process of normalising relations between the two countries. “Serbia did not show real goals for normalising relations between the two countries, says Hoti.
Vuciq: Very serious talks
Serbia's President Vuciq said that today's talks have been too serious. Serbia was the only one who had positions contrary to other negotiating participants. “Germania and France will come up with common statements and opposing positions after we have not reconciled”, Vuciq said.
The Serbian president said that the Albanian side was presented with a “wishlist, since Serbia does not accept orders and ultimatums.
“Pristina requires preservation of territorial integrity, preservation of the Constitution and the constitutional order of Kosovo, recognition between the two countries, rather than a model like two Germans, UN accession and recognition by other EU countries. And then they want to open up the issue of missing persons and war damage”, Vuciq stressed, adding that such talks are meaningless.
“We are willing to discuss all steps to improve the position of our people, the movement of people, but we do not accept ultimatum”, Vuciq stressed. /DW
