President Thaci questioned by Prosecutor Specialised in The Hague

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci today will hear and answer Seoperative Prosecutor's questions to The Hague over war crimes charges.

He arrived in The Hague yesterday, while in advance in an interview for Top Channel, Thaci said that as if all other UCK fighters have responded positively to the call of Specialised Chambers, he has the same answer.

I will be fully responsible for the circumstances created with our civic obligations, our constitutional and legal obligations. I know it has been a historic injustice when these specialised rooms were established, but I want to stress today that it has been a very serious decision of the Republic of Kosovo's Parliament, but a strategicly just” decision, Thaci said.

The Specialised Prosecutor's Office two weeks ago announced that, towards former KLA political director Hashim Thaci and former SHIK chief Kadri Veselini, an indictment has been filed in the Specialised Chambers, reports Express.

A court of preliminary procedure in Specialised Chambers has deadlines until October 24th to confirm or reject the indictment against Thaci, Veselin and others.

The indictment claims that Thaci, Wessel and other suspects have been prosecuted for nearly 100 murders. The crimes presented in the indictment include hundreds of identified Albanian, Serbian, Roma and political opponents.

The specialised prosecutor had deemed it necessary to issue the public announcement of the charges, reportedly because of Thaci's repeated efforts to prevent and sabotage the work of Specialised Chambers.

Although the president has continued to remain in office, he has suspended public activities in recent days by returning to memorial visits, former fighters and families of martyrs. The day before the interview, Thaci has been homazh even at the grave of former activist and political prisoners, Adem Demaci.

Before going to The Hague, Thaci also stepped down from his reluctance to continue the mandate of the EULEX mission, which is linked to the Special Court.

This mission continues to manage the witness protection programme and assists Specialised Chambers and Prosecutor's Office with logistical and operational support.
