For several days, I have followed with concern the increasing armed tensions in the Caucasus region between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, he said.
The pope repeated the plea to stop all fighting worldwide, a call he first made in the outbreak of the body's pandemic.
More than 600,000 people have died of the new coronary.
More than a dozen people have been reported killed in recent fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The two former Soviet countries have clashed over the controversial Karabah region.
Karabah region is internationally recognised as part of predominantly Muslim Azerbaijan, but is controlled by Armenian Christian separatists.
Recent wars were in the north of the region. The two countries have previously fought for Karabagun, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, while declaring independence from the Soviet Union. Some 30,000 people were killed in this war. /Attish
