Peter Piot, assistant to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, has declared that the pandemic is only in its beginning, and citizens around the world are forced to fight with it for a long time.
Piot said we have 10 million cases confirmed worldwide, but I think it's over 20 million.
He thinks that a half a million victims will soon be passed, with HIV and the Spanish flu of 1918, this is the biggest epidemic and social crisis in peacetime.
“
According to him, although the situation seems to be sustainable right away in some European countries, we still have to prepare for a second wave.
“I hope it's not a tsunami, it's just a sporadic blast like we have now. We need to get ready soon. I am hopeful to see how different countries and companies are co-operating for vaccines and medicines, he said.
In 1976, at the age of 27, Piot collaborated on the discovery of the symbol, and in the last 40 years, it is taught that he has studied some of the planet's most infectious diseases.
From 1995 until 2008, it has run the United Nations Programme for HIV/ AIDS.
Despite his experience, Piot was unprepared for direct confrontation with David-19, which he fought for three months.
I'm fine now, but I learned that this virus is more than a flu. The problem is that the official communications we hear are about easing the infection curve and neglecting man when it's actually about a human crisis.
The second problem is people's perception of the disease. It is not an easy disease or intensive therapy. Many people will remain chronically ill after Covid-19”, Piot explained.
He stressed that pandemic may last for years, as vaccines will not be easy to detect. If the vaccine is not discovered, we will be forced to co-exist with the virus for years, Peter Piot said.
